General Scholarships

There are many scholarships offered by local, regional and national organizations, which can be used at Texas A&M. The scholarships have various criteria, so check out the individual Web sites to learn more.

We'll try to keep this information updated often to let you know about scholarships available in your community.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) offers $1,000-$2,500 scholarships for students attending the following Texas school districts:

  • Dallas Independent School District/HSF Scholarship
  • Laredo Independent School District
  • Northside Independent School District/HSF Scholarship
  • Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District/HSF Scholarship

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute
The CHCI Scholarship Award is given to Latino students who show strong leadership skills in their community and who plan to continue giving back to their communities in the future. Deadline: April

League of United Latin American Citizens
LULAC offers numerous scholarships. To learn more or to request an application, visit their Web site at: www.lulac.org/Programs/Scholar.html.

Grandmothers for Peace
They offer a $250-$500 scholarship. No minimum grade point average required to apply, but you have to request an application by mail. Requires an essay. Deadline: March 1. Learn more at their Web site: www.grandmothersforpeace.org/.

Wells Fargo Education Financial Services
Visit the Web site to fill out a form. They are giving away 100 scholarships in the amount of $1,000. To find out more, visit: www.wellsfargo.com/per/student/planning/steps.jhtml.

Toyota Scholarship Programs
Toyota supports scholarships administered through The College Fund/UNCF (United Negro College Fund), National Hispanic Scholarship Fund, the Institute for American Indian Arts, the Future Farmers of America Foundation, and other groups. To learn more, visit www.uncf.org/scholarship/.

Ron Brown Scholarships
This program provides scholarships for students who demonstrate leadership, community service and is open to students who have interest in any major. This is one of the most prestigious scholarships and it's very competitive! Deadline: November 15 and January 9. To find out more, go to: www.RonBrown.org.

Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship
The foundation awards $7,000 scholarships to about 100 students each year. It's a renewable scholarship and is based on academic merit, leadership, and community service. It's open to all majors. Deadline: April 1. Details available at: www.JackieRobinson.org.

Gates Millennium Scholarships
The Gates Millennium Scholarships promote academic excellence and provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students who have significant financial need. The scholarship will cover room, board and tuition for at least 1,000 high school students a year. Deadline: Usually in March. All-ink.com
All-Ink.com is offering $10,000 in scholarships to qualified students who are enrolled or planning to attend college during the Spring 2006 or Fall 2006 term or full-year 2006-2007 school year. Students who apply must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Deadline: December 31. Burger King Scholars

Jane Austen Essay Contest
The Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest is open to high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Students interested in the life and works of Jane Austen may find this contest appealing. Prizes will be awarded to each level of students: high school, undergraduate and graduate. McDonald's Scholarships

Hispanic College Fund
The Hispanic College Fund offers several scholarships programs to a variety of students. Deadline: Usually mid-April. hispanicfund.org/

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
The Foundation provides financial assistance in the form of scholarships to deserving sons and daughters of current or former United States Marines. Assistance is also available to deserving sons and daughters of current or former United States Navy Corpsmen, who have served with the United States Marine Corps, in their pursuit of higher education. www.marine-scholars.org/eligible.html

Target Scholarships
Each year, Target awards more than 2,100 All–Around Scholarships to high school seniors and college students age 24 and younger. Awards given include four, $10,000 national scholarships and two smaller scholarships for each Target store. Tylenol Scholarships
Tylenol offers scholarships for deserving undergraduate and graduate students. Deadline: Usually in April. scholarship.tylenol.com/

Coca-Cola Scholarships
Coca-Cola awards scholarships based on character, personal merit and commitment. Merit is demonstrated through leadership in school, civic and extracurricular activities, academic achievement and motivation to serve and succeed. Deadline: Usually in October.

Discover Card Tribute Award
